This is the page for a little self-indulgence I think.
I'm Barrie Hancock, the author of this site. For many years I've had an interest in photography but never in a position to actively pursue it. After spending several lifetimes in the mining industry I was able to get out at a relatively young age, with most of my faculties intact, and so was able to learn something of this rewarding art form. Digital technology, of course, makes it easier for people to pursue such interests, and for most people (myself included), if you take enough pictures, you'll eventually land a decent one! Hopefully as time progresses the proportion of good to crap improves, but we'll have to wait and see.
I don't profess to be anything like an experienced professional, or even any good at it really; I just enjoy it. In that way, I've been lucky to be able to pursue my interests; added to which some people actually seem to like some of the pictures I manage to produce. Of course they are all friends so they are hardly likely to tell me it's all rubbish, well maybe some of them might. Hmmmm.
Having a good camera and equipment is only the first of many steps: you have to use the thing. So my 365 Project (and many others around the world have taken on similar challenges) is a way of making myself use my gear on at least a daily basis. It's actually harder than it sounds, although pressing a shutter button isn't exactly stressful. Finding subjects each day that are interesting and have some form of relevance, without becoming too abstract is a challenge in itself, and then to capture that in an image that you can be pleased with heightens the challenge.
Anyway, I hope that if anyone ever looks at this site, they will at least be understanding of what it's about, and if anyone has anything to offer in terms of advice, constructive criticism, or even the offer of a day job, please do get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
That's it for now. I hope you enjoy it - that's really the aim.
